A few days ago, fellow geocacher GeoRedheads and I hiked the Ohlone Wilderness Trail, from the Del Valle Reservoir 10 miles SE of Livermore to the Sunol Regional Park headquarters. Total distance: 36.3 km, (22.55 miles). Total ascent: 1835 meters (6020 ft). What a great (although quite arduous) hike!
Here is a map of the

I just completed a trip to Zurich, Switzerland and Munich, Germany.
Zurich, situated on lovely lake Zurich, is ranked among the world’s most livable cities (2nd, 7th, 11th, depending on which survey).
Munich is a very nice city near the southern border of Germany. I happened to be here during the annual “Octoberfest” celebration

To begin with, there are no cars, not even any motorcycles; only motorboats plying the numerous large and small canals. What’s more, the entire city (at least four square miles) consists of 600-year-old buildings built near the

First stop on our trip, after landing in Milan, was to take a train trip to Bertinoro, a medieval castle dating from the 10th century (yes that is more than 1000 years old), where our conference was held. On Tuesday, the conference had a field trip to visit nearby Ravenna, where a Christian cathedral dates
