About one week ago, “Alamogul” (the world’s #1 geocacher, with over 45,000 registered “finds”) published a new “challenge geocache” (for other geocachers). To successfully “find” this challenge geocache, one must hike to, find and log every one of the 80 geocaches within the boundaries of the Las Trampas Regional Park, a large rugged open space area to the west of where we live in Alamo, plus find and log one additional new geocache added especially for this challenge.
Today, in memory of Merlene’s 93rd birthday, I registered “first-to-find” for this geocache. Even though I had a good “head start”, having hiked many times in the Las Trampas area, I still had to complete about 10 more geocaches with the past week or so, several of which involving puzzles to be solved to find the geocache coordinates, and others requiring long, arduous hikes on rugged trails. The final three geocaches on my list, which I found today, required 13 miles of hiking and a total elevation gain of about 3800 ft (in 90+ degree weather).
Today, at 2:15pm, I hiked to and found the last remaining geocache on my list, and registered my completion on the geocaching.com website, using my iPhone from the trail. Congrats dad! Quite an accomplishment. You better be careful or your legacy will be as a geocacher instead of a mathematician!
That’s cool, dad!
I thought Team Alamo was the world’s #1 geocacher. He just changed his name, or was I mistaken?
Congrats!! Smart and athletic, I see where your kids get it!
