Those of you who have lived here in Alamo will remember our friend and neighbor Ray Engstrom. He and David went backpacking in the Sierras over the past three days. Our original plans had to be scrapped, due to very high snow in the Sierras (and a mishap with a blow-out tire), so we started our hike at Badger Flat, near Kaiser Pass, which is northeast of Fresno. In spite of all the snow, we had a great time. Here are some photos:

Ray marks the trailhead. With the deep snow, Ray is higher than the sign.

Trail? What trail? For most of the way, the trail was buried under snow. In GPS we trust!

DHB at a meadow, near where we camped

Ray eating dinner. We camped near an old locked-up cabin.

Home in beautiful setting. Needs some repairs...

Entering the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness

Raging waterfall

Stymied! We didn't really want to cross this river...

Bear tracks in the snow

Another lovely meadow
I love that hat on you dad. So handsome!
It is so interesting to see what the Sierra scenery looks like in this transitory time of year. Meadows are swamps, rivers are raging.
Looks like a great trip!
You are real adventurers; what with the water and wildlife. Thanks for sharing the photos. We are envious.
